The Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Kingdom of Spain, H.E. Regina Appiah-Sam, met with Mr. Juan Manuel Corchado, Rector of the University of Salamanca on Thursday, 12th December, 2025 to discuss educational cooperation between Ghana and Spain. The meeting reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and the University of Salamanca, one of Europe’s oldest universities.
Discussions focused on the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on educational cooperation, originally signed in June 2019, with both sides expressing commitment to concluding the renewal process in time for the 2025/2026 academic year. The renewed agreement is expected to support the continued exchange of students, particularly in Spanish language studies.
The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation into new areas, including science, technology, engineering and innovation. The University of Salamanca highlighted its strong links with industry and ongoing plans to offer more graduate programmes taught in English, which would enhance access for Ghanaian students.
Both sides further discussed the possibility of strengthening Spanish language training in Ghana and promoting closer collaboration between universities in Ghana and Spain. The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to maintain close coordination through the Embassy of Ghana in Madrid and to advance practical steps towards deepening educational cooperation.
