Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, engaged Ghana’s diaspora community in Vic, Spain, following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the “In Defence of Democracy” Initiative.
She was joined by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe. The engagement brought together traditional leaders, the Ghana Union, and various Ghanaian associations.
The Vice President conveyed greetings from the President and commended the community for upholding Ghana’s image abroad. She reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening diaspora relations and briefed participants on key national priorities, including economic stabilisation, inflation control, and the transition to a value-added, production-driven economy under the Big Push initiative.
She also highlighted interventions in agriculture to boost local production, alongside social programmes such as the No-Fees Stress Policy, free sanitary pads for schoolgirls, and expanded primary healthcare. Additional initiatives including the Goldbod programme, the 24-hour economy, and the Women’s Development Bank were outlined as part of efforts toward inclusive growth.
The Vice President expressed appreciation for the warm reception and encouraged continued diaspora engagement in Ghana’s development.
